Kirkcaldy Caravans Massive Show Success
It would be fair to say that the 2017 Scottish Caravan, Motorhome and Holiday home show which took place from 2– 6 February was one of the best shows in recent memory for many, but in particular Kirkcaldy Caravans. Managing Director Malcolm Sempey reported “There where good signs before Christmas that sales where on the up however this year’s show more than exceeded our expectations. For the first time ever we have taken orders for a number of 2018 models on the basis that existing 2017 models have sold out. I have been in this industry over twenty years and this is unprecedented”. Show organiser Jamie Taylor reported that motorhome sales were also very strong however sales across the board have come back in line with what they were pre- recession. This is great news for the whole industry.
This recent sustained confidence in the market means that new caravans will now be in even greater demand than before. Explorer Group (Elddis, Compass, Xplore) have already report that all 2017 models sold out before Christmas. There are models still available however only on the dealers forecourts. Lunar and Swift have also reported numerous models being very limited with some models not being available to 2018.
What do this all mean?
New caravans in some particular models will not be available onto the end of 2017 meaning that demand is at an all time high. Caravan manufacturers will aim to increase production for the 2017/18 season however this does pose it’s own challenges with the introduction new staff and training. There will also be added pressure on suppliers to be able to cope with these new demands and subsequent demanding timescales.
Customers who are holding out for better prices later in the year better be ready for a disappointment as it’s extremely unlikely the summer and end of season sales will materialise.
